Deceit is an asymmetrical multiplayer horror game developed by Automaton Games and released in 2017. Inspired by the tabletop game 'Werewolf,' a group of six players are randomly assigned roles. Four players are 'innocent' and have the task of gathering weapons and tools to defend themselves before escaping the area. Two players are 'infected,' and while they appear human, they have the ability to transform into a gruesome monster and murder the innocents. I worked as the solo audio designer on this project.
Audio Features
-
Deceit has periods of darkness when the lights go out, and the monsters are at large. During this time it was important to be able to hear any threats near you. While occlusion and reverb help to spatialise sounds around the player, there is also a dynamic ambience/music system which ramps up in intensity based on the proximity of the nearest monster.

Voice plays a big role in Deceit. While in-game chat is available, all characters have voice acting and communicate with each other to help inform the player what's going on around them. I worked with each voice actor and implemented all of the dialogue.

A highlight of the project for me was providing the sound design for the monster variations, including the mutant, vampire, werewolf, demon and yeti.
